Xantia Rear Height Problem in NI

Post by citroencurran »

I have a problem with my Xantia, and any help would be most appreciated. The car's rear dropped one night whilst driving and it wouldn't rise again. I took it to a general mechanic who replaced the rear ride height adjuster as the one in the car was seized up completely. However, now, the car won't rise at the rear in normal ride height at all and it sounds as if the pump is working flat out all the time. The rear will lift only when the car is put all the way up, but for some reason will not move in ordinary mode. I have to put the car up all the way, then lower it down to ride height to set it, but, even this is problematic as the rear eventually drops down after 5 - 10 minutes whilst test driving it. The mechanic recommends taking it to a Citroen specialist [if I can find one] as he only knows so much about the system. Does anybody have any advice? Or can anybody from Northern Ireland recommend a good mechanic who is local to the Newry area and knows about Xantia suspension. Thanks.

That sounds almost identical to the problem I had the other week.

Check the rear height corrector, it has a plastic rod linking it to the anti roll bar. This sometimes pops off and will give the symptoms you describe.

I bought a new rod from Citroen as the old one can be worn and just keep popping off.

Before venturing under the car though make sure it is properly supported as if your fiddling with the Height corrector there is potential for it to collapse and crush and kill you unless it is supported.

Pictures 9-11 in the following link show the height corrector and the link rod. It's positioned in the centre at the rear, ahead of the spare wheel.

Hope that helps

maybe your mechanic has either conected the two top pipes the wrong way round or he has not re/coupled the manual hight adjustment linkage corectly as this is very fiddly
