I mentioned on here a couple of weeks ago that my 93 Xantia was making a hissing noise (like its drawing air in) when still every few seconds. Had the accumilator sphere replaced and LHM renewed and filters cleaned. It now seems to do it intermittently - last night it was quiet, tonight it was doing it again every few seconds. Its not leaking LHM as far as I'm aware - I've had it in the garage and moved the height lever several times and theres not a drop on the floor. Ride/brakes/PAS seem ok, and its not slow to lift in the morning.
What should I be looking at now as my next course of action? Alternatively should I just leave it be? The hydraulic pump is under 3 yrs old and has only covered 30k so I'll be mighty hacked off if thats the root cause.

I wonder what the condition of the hose between the reservoir and the pump is like?
This about the only way air can get into the system and has caused a number of otherwise mysterious problems to contributors to this and other boards. If you can see into your reservoir with the engine running you may be able to see bubbles.

Kered - its defintely a hydraulic problem. Its the same noise the car makes as it rises in the morning.
I had the work mentioned above done at a local garage who has a good rep, but they're not a Citroen specialist. I asked him to check the condition of the hoses but he didn't mention anything when I picked the car up so I presumed they were ok, but there is some evidence of a minor LHM leak just under the airbox, and there is still some LHM in the vicinity so I think this needs examining. Problem I have at the minute is my arm is in plaster so working on cars is a bit beyond me, otherwise I would have done the work the garage did myself. If I can get my Dad here over the weekend I'll get him to dismantle things so I can have a look. If I can't sort it, I think i'll have to run it to a Citroen specialist and have them sort it.

I'm still no further on with this, and I lost a couple of posts so I'll type what I know out again.
The hiss/click seems to disappear when I move the steering wheel off centre. It also becomes much quieter when the suspension is low, but it still ticks just as often, the hiss is less noisy.
I haven't a clue how long the wheel spheres have been on the car, what is the likelyhood of the problem lying with them? They seem to bounce ok.
Is there any way I can identify the faulty part, eg. by removing return hoses? I've seen on the BX site you can, but the Xantia seems to have a different arrangement on top of the LHM tank, and I don't want an LHM bath!
What I don't want to do is end up replacing numerous hydraulic bits and it costing me a fortune, because the car isn't worth a huge amount of cash.

My Xantia has always had a bit of a hissing noise from the power steering - sort of like it's sucking its teeth. Doesn't seem to have caused any problems in the seven years I've owned it, though.
