Buzz behind dash

Post by lexi »

I have had an intermittent buzz ..........lasts seconds .

It comes at any time and lasts two seconds. It seems to come from behind centre of dash at fresh air vents. It`s like a high pitched froggy croaking sound. Maybe I`ve got a Cigale stuck in there

It will come on acceleration or cruising. ECU.......?Noisy speedo? Does anyone else have it?

Is this on a Xantia with Climate Control (not necessarily aircon, but at least the thermostatic temeprature slider on the heater controls)? If so, my money's on the little fan that such air in out of the cabin to check the temperature. It's above the radio, breathes through the small holes in the dash at the left-hand end of the centre bar-thing.

Cheers

If it is that fan, then mine in the old Xantia rattled on and off for years, mine was usually after a cold start. I think someone on this forum did once post some instructions about fixing it. I used to just give the side of the dashboard a bloody great thump, occasionally seemed to do the trick :-)

So I'm afraid I've not been too helpful. I've told you what it probably is, but not how to fix it.

The cabin temperature sensor fan is tiny and easily fouled by a build up of dust etc. I would suggest a strong blast of air into the vent first followed by a brief spray of lubricant which probably won't last long (would silicone be better?).

If a more permanent fix is required, OEM parts are about £80 IIRC but maplins sell fans small enough to use as a replacement.

This topic has been covered before on this forum but to remove the assembly (grill, led, thermistor, fan) pop it out from behind once you've pulled the radio out or risk levering it from the front. Then undo both connectors to completely remove the unit.
