C5 2.0 HDI - oil level warning

Post by doctordon »

I have just changed the oil and filter on my 51 2.0 HDI LX estate.
Reset the service counter. The dipstick says full but the computer says empty - flashing dashes.
Will the computer eventually realise it has oil or does something else need resetting (kicking) ?
Any thoughts please
Regards
Don

I don't know if the C5 uses the same sort of sensor but the low oil warning light on the Xantia often cries wolf on semi and fully synthetic oil.

The oil level warning only seems to be reliable on old-fashioned mineral oil.

Should have said - it was fully synthetic oil. Spose in the meantime as long as I check the oil the old fashioned way I,m safe (why did I get rid of the Xantia?)
Thanks

Check the handbook but IIRC the flashing dashes indicate that it is overfilled.
Although I slightly overfilled mine and nothing happened. Hardly ever remember to look at it as it never uses any oil - I had been on a very slight incline which was enough to make it look as though the level was low (2/3).
Could also be a faulty sensor of course.

I will wait till I am at the suprmarket this weekend - one of the few places where it is FLAT. Then will check the level carefully. I admit that at home the drive is not absolutely level nor is the road outside. (Modern Technology - it worries you )
Thanks for the tip and i'll let you know what I find

Try rocking the car side to side. When my 05 estate has its oil light on this has cleared the fault
