Xantia 99 Facelift Model Please Enlighten me
Can anybody enlighten me as to how I can identify whether an Xantia 1.9TD (not Hdi) is 90 or 110 BHP. It is automatic & I feel it is 110 BHP as comparing it to my 96 Xantia TD. the power seems vastly improved-but I can find no evidence as to its BHP. Both cars are 1905 CC

Citroën never produced a 1.9TD with 110 BHP, although of course someone may have tinkered with it, in which case then 110 was achievable. Pre HDI days 110 was the output of the 2.1.
On an HDI its easy to work out whether its 90 or 110 as the 110 has a second intake pipe between the engine and the air filter inlet pipe.

It's more likely that your old one had something wrong with it that was holding it back, or it might be that the gearing of the automatic makes better use of the available power.
Just had a thought, your '96 wasn't one of those SD models was it?

Thanks for your helpful comments. As far as I know the Sd model was not marketed here in Ireland. No ...nothing wrong with the old 1996 model, as it has been driven by a few Xantia entheusists over the years. & they found nothing wrong . I am inclined to agree with your remark "that the gearing of the automatic gearbox makes better use of the available power", In any case their is no comparison between the two cars as regards power.
