help needed - Xsara rear door won't open

Post by ralph »

Hello all

My rear driver's side door is locked, and won't open.
It failed to open on several occasions over the last few weeks, but a few turns of the central locking got it open. Now it's packed in.

I've taken the door card off, and the rods from the handle and central locking solonoid are working fine.

I always deadlock the car, and doing a search on the forum I see RichardW says if the deadlock has remained on, the lock has to be smashed off.

Any tips on what to try next? Haynes says the window regulator needs to come off to get at the lock, but I can't because I need to open the door to get at its retaining screw...

Any advice welcome!

try speaking to an independant Citroen specialist or the dealer. There are sometimes inside track workarounds on these kinds of problems.

If not then try disconnecting the battery or pulling the central locking relay turning the ignition on and off then re inserting it to hopefully Factory reset the system? If you get it open, disconnect the central locking wiring from it so it works manually.

This is just what i would do....

Thanks Vince. It's just blown a hole in the cat section of the exhaust - so I'll try your suggestion, and if no joy, Citraulix in Bradford can have a go when they fit a new pipe next week.

As you've got the door card off you may be able to find a lever directly on the door lock that will unlock it. I managed to do this on C5 rear door recently although I'm not sure it whether it had been deadlocked.

Another option may be to find someone with a Lexia as the central locking system will be controlled by an ECU which the Lexia can access and is able to lock, unlock, deadlock the door, read faults, erase them etc etc. I'll be taking my Lexia to the CCC national on Sunday if you fancy a run out.

Thanks Dickie - I'll get my long stick and torch out. Enjoy the weekend.

Sorted the problem.

I spooked the system by locking the car with the key from the driver's door, with the passenger door open.
This locks then immediately re-opens all locks - and the rear door opened with it, and no problems since.

The suggestion from my garage Citraulix was to use a long, sharp screwdriver to chip away the lock's white casing from the inside, then fiddle with any levers found within, so it opens. Then replace the lock with a new one, for about £50.
Hopefully I've avoided having to do this...

i had to replace a read door lock on my freinds PISSSCASO, they are ment to be a sealed unit, new one cost around 36 squide from citroen,

if you havent had the exhaust done yet have it de/catted, i susppect you will be able to by a factory made straight through section like you can for the XANTIA TD,

THIS IS NOT AN MOT FALIURE
