Mine is a single button IR remote and has 2x CR2025, it does look like slightly thicker ones would fit though.
As mentioned the remote isn't programmed - it's the receiver in the car. Some cars have to be reprogrammed after the main battery in the car has been disconnected and some don't!
(The 1993 we have will lose the programming even if the battery is off for a few minutes, my 1997 can have the battery off for hours or days and doesn't seem to lose it...)
Regards,
Simon

I've just changed the batteries in my IR plip. The batteries were 2025 but I put in two 2032s. I brought a card of 12 assorted big flat cell batteries - 2025, 2032 and 2015? - for 99p at What!
Pug Rifter long (20) - 41mpg - Gutsy for a 1.5!
Xantia 1.9 TD Temp.2 Break (97) - 208K@42mpg - Resting again.
Berlingo Multispace 1.6 16v (51) - 184K@36mpg - My shed! Still runs 15° retarded...

Well i replaced the batteries, but the remote still wont work. its gradually been dieing for a few months now, so looks like it needs a replace.
Can i used a second hand remote and program it as described above?

Yes, any 2 button IR remote should work if your receiver is reprogrammed.
If you have a soldering iron, try resoldering some connections on the pcb of your remote. The usual suspects seem to be the LED connections, the switch connections, the battery connection, and (be careful) the legs on the Integrated circuit. I have had a couple that were intermittant, but responded well to a bit of resoldering.
