Xantia 1.9TD, oil in Water tank,HG busted?, was Oil cooler

Thanks DickieG, for the gearbox dip stick info, unfortunately this box really does not have a dipstick, you have to remove a part of the gearbox drain plug to check for level, that's just about one can do.
I have had the gearbox recently refurbished and the workshop assures me that the heat exchanger was replaced as part of the refurb to a newer fatter peugot variety..

I have now changed the engine oil cooler with a new one from the dealer as I would have hated the very thought of returning to this job a few months down the year in the cold and rain.

Now just going through the draining cycles.

Hope this helps others when they search for "oil in header tank" on our forum.
