C2 Oil filter change

Post by SimonT »

Hi all,
A quick question on behalf of my step son!

How do you change the oil filter on a 2004 C2 1.6 VTR?

I've had a quick look and it's not the type I'm used to (ie screw in canister) but seems to have a body that needs removing with a plastic type "nut" on the top. The "nut" is very tight and I am scared to turn this if this is not what I actually supposed to be undoing, in case it breaks! Or do you have to undo the actual body of it?

Any info would be great thanks.

Hi Simon,

I know these  They are tight and like you, I was worried about putting too much strain on the "nut" at the top. I used a big, wide webbing strap wrench on the body.

It unscrews in the conventional way and inside you'll find a filter element.

The domed cover is sealed with a massive O ring and there is a smaller O ring on the "spout" of the element. Make sure when you put the new element in that it clicks into place and then screw the domed cover down on top of it.

Just tighten the dome enough to ensure it is sealed and not leaking oil. I don't really think it has to be mega-tight.

you need a 27mm socket & it gets re-tightened to 25Nm.

Thank you so much guys, that makes so much sense now and it's all alot clearer.
We'll have a go at that as soon as the weather allows.

Thank you again.

Simon.
