Xantia soft front suspension

Post by jonnydrumm1967 »

Hi,
I recently got a xantia TD est from a mate, I know he'd changed both top mounts and fitted 2 new spheres. The front now feels soft and wallowy on undulating roads.Could it be he'd got the wrong spheres from my local factors? ie hatch ones instead of estate? Its a 1995 estate 1.9TD LX. My other car,a 97 1.9TD hatch Xantia, is fine in this respect.

Any ideas would be welcome,thanks,

Jon.

If there is that much difference I would suggest that there is more difference in the spheres than just a hatch instead of an estate. Assuming that yours is hydractive, I suppose they havn't given you non hydractive ones, that would probably do it.

Sounds like you might have put rear ones on the front. The rears on estates have no internal damping. If you still have the old ones take one of the new ones off and see if they look the same inside. There will be a big difference if they are rear ones.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

Certainly sounds like the wrong spheres, it wont be the struts. Check the numbers, if they are GSF spheres you can check them on the net.
