Xantia suspension change

Post by Stekelly »

Hi folks. I need to change the rear spheres on my 2000 1.8 Xantia SX. Have decided to change all the spehers while I'm at it.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent guide to changing them (if one exists) and also confirm how many spheres there are.
Am I right in thinking 2 rear (left and right) and a centre one. then 2 front (left and right) plus a centre again? I have seen reference to a front accululator and a front centre.

GSF have a listign for both (front centre and accumulator ) at the same price.

Cheers folks.

Hi there, I think if it's an SX model like mine you'll have two at the front L-R, three at the rear L-R and the middle brake accumulator (sometimes called anti sink sphere) and one 'main accumulator that is fitted into a valve unit called the pressure regulator, that's usually bolted onto the front of the engine low down behind the radiator.

So 6 in total.

N45322 SPHERE-FRONT CENTRE XANTIA CENTRE FRONT (again is this the same as this? N45304 ACCUMULATOR SPHERE XANTIA ACCUMULATOR ) x 1

Thanks again.
No, this is the 'extra' sphere for Hydractive equipped Xantias. There would also be a rear centre sphere IN ADDITION to the anti sink.

So the other spheres you mention are correct. You don't need either of the front or rear ones called 'centre spheres'

Good luck changing them - shouldn't be too hard, and enjoy the smoothness!

Thanks for the help.
Whats the situation with the middle rear one? Is it not the centre rear one from GSF. Is it the anti sink one I need?

So its 2 rear and 2 front spheres and the rear antisink one? thats the full set, yeah?

the full set is as you say 2x rear corner 2x front corner 1x rear anti-sink plus 1x accumulator
there is a guide here http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... php?t=1695
the front corner spheres are a lot easier than the rears but i have yet to do an accumulator that pleasure awaits me tomorrow

please do take heed of the warnings about having the car firmly supported on axle stands these cars can and will kill when they drop

when refitting replace the o ring but put it onto the sphere mounting post not the sphere this will prevent it turning /pinching and thereby leaking.
pay extra care when doing the anti sink this needs to have the 9mm nut undone before unscrewing the sphere.it is a bit tricky to locate at first and access to it is not the best
