Xantia LHM leak

Well it's about time my Xantia 2.0 VSX Estate was back on the road.

Last time it was used, it had developed an LHM leak from somewhere near the N/S rear suspension.
Is there anything in this area that is a common fault that I could look for and investigate? It was just a steady drip onto the ground and at the time I just couldn't see where it was from......

The best thing to do is to get it over an inspection pit or up on a garage's 4 poster lift and have a good look.

It's not unknown for the 'anti sink' valve to leak but it could be a number of things. It's often something fairly simple like a pipe union loose but if it's a pipe leak due to corrosion then you'd need to get a new pipe to change out - not too difficult.

Just remember never to crawl under a citroen standing on its tyres! If the suspension lowers for ANY reason (selector lever pops out of its notch or due to a fault) it can squash you!!

I had trouble with a leak at the rear of my VSX. The return from the hydractive valve comes across the top of the subframe in rubber and then joins onto a hard plastic pipe. My hydractive valve was a bit leaky, so it blew the joint apart. I eventually got it to stay on by putting cable ties round both the plastic part and the rubber part and wiring them together. If you get it up on ramps and remove the spare wheel and carrier you can (just) get your hands over the top of the subframe to feel the pipes.

There's also a plastic tee in there somewhere that occasionally leaks. Changing that is 'fun' by all accounts

Update to my leak.....

Today I finally got the Xantia of the patch of mud that was grass a few months ago. The battery was flat yet again, so had to find the jump leads, they were in the back of the Colt buried under a cylinder head or two, got the spare battery out, that was flat too

Then I got the Pajero connected the jump leads and over and over it cranked

Ah

I remembered I hadn't done the immobiliser code

Then it started fine - phew! Oh and one of the tyres was very flat too!

I then got the 3 ton jack out, proceeded to lift the car by about 2mm then the part of the mechanism that lifts the piston decided to come adrift

Fixed that now.....
Anyway it would appear that the leak is coming from over the top of the subframe (as RichardW suggested), where from I couldn't see, so it looks like a case removing the spare wheel carrier etc for a better look

So that's it for now..

I did use axle stands as well when under the car. (knew that from the BX days)
