gearbox woes

Post by toofargone »

Hello. I am changing the gearbox in a year 2000 Synergie HDi, and have a couple of questions.
1. The two bolts securing the hub carrier to the strut had to be hammered out. They were so badly rusted in. Has anyone had a similar experience?
2. I am having great difficulty getting the RH driveshaft out. The intermediate bearing does not seem to be separating. I followed the procedure of removing the two nuts and pushing the bolts out, but it will still not move. Has anyone got any tips on how to remove it?

Thanks

... Or, clamp a large pair of molegrips on the shaft between the gearbox and bearing, and hammer on them.

Thank you for the tips.

I managed to get it moving by the drift method. I am yet again amazed at the amount of physical effort to get some of these parts off. My old Granada never needed as much force.

Thanks Again, The Forum is great
