Sadly, I have to post that my 1999 xantia is no more
My dear wife was driving it, when, two stupid women walked out onto a zebra crossing without looking. The car in front of my wife slammed on to stop, my wife slammed on, but seeing as it was in a hail storm, the road was ice covered and bang!!!!! The cars were doing no more than 20mph. Damage - bonnet, bumper, headlights, fan housing, cross member, wing, and other bits.
Engineer came out and said it wasnt viable to repaire and it is being picked up in the morning.
I asked about buying it back but the insurance company wont sell it back due to back handers in the past!!!!!
I am now looking for a replacement car but only have a budget of £1000
I will still be on here
Paul

Hi Paul,
Sorry to hear about your dead Xantia. They seem to die quite easily--someone else in this forum had their rear hit, and it ended up as a write off. I have had 4 Xantias and 6 Bx's, but I think my love affair with Cits is nearing it's end. What to have next---64,000 dollar question?. My 1.9 TD S reg will be up for sale after May--selling caravan, so don't need a lump of a car like the Xant.

Sorry to hear that Paul , always a shame to hear of another Xantia off to it's final resting place. I just hope it will donate some bits to keep other Xantias alive...
Still, with a budget of £1000, you should be able to secure a very nice, tidy replacement.

Greg, you've had la lot of Hydraulic Citroens now. Do you really think any other car will make a suitable replacement for the Xantia? I don't think so.. Stick with what you know so well!Gregg1100 wrote: My 1.9 TD S reg will be up for sale after May--selling caravan, so don't need a lump of a car like the Xant.

cant you tell them you want to retain salvage rights, i dont think its any good just asking them, if there is no structural damage i dont think they can refuse, all it means is if they deam it a cat C wright off you just have to get a VIC test once its back on the road, this cost £36 squide and all they do is check its still the same car it started out as

You can always buy it back, i did this with my Montego Estate and got £850 for it on insurance because its pre-accident conditon was excellent. Sadly time and lack of facilites stopped me from repairing it so i ended up breaking it, but what you do with it when you 'buy it back' is up to you, if it goes back on the road it will need an VIC test which is very easy.
Any car older than 5 years seems to get written off! Unfortunatly Xantia's are very cheap to buy on the market so its easy to throw one away and get another, but if there car was a known good one, its worth fixing it if you can get a decent value for it.

My feelings too Jim... before very much much longer I really must try and find a really nice, fairly low mileage (ie. <100k), hi spec HDi, in order to see me well into dotage, before they get too rare. A really nice XM would also fill the need, but Lucas pumps...

I think my plan will be to find 2 cars.
A very nice Exclusive Xantia 1.9td(and maybe swap the auto box for manual) or a late V plate 1.9td like mine but with lower milage and a service history and good bodywork.
Then a nice 2.1td XM with the bosch pump and a nice leather interior as well
You should be able to retain salvage on the car as its your car until the calim is settled it can stay on your drive until then and the insurance company should offer you the right to build it into your payout.

Does an XM with a Bosch pump exist? If not that closes the book on an XM for me, notwithstanding how outstanding the car is.
