Hi all
there is a 2000 2.0HDi Xantia on ebay that wont run because it needs a new 'fuel pump'. I doubt I will take the plunge, but am wondering is this likely to be the diesel injection pump or do these have an auxiliary lift pump in the system to help out the injection pump?
bye

There are 2 makes of HDi injection systems - Bosch and Siemens. Bosch systems use a low pressure in-tank lift pump that is prone to failure any time after 60k miles, but there is no lift pump on Siemens systems. It seems unlikely that anyone would list a car for spares / repair for failure of the lift pump, which only costs a £100 or so (not at the dealer!). The HP pump, on the other hand, costs ££££ and you may well be advised to fit new HP lines and injectors at the same time. Well into a four figure sum....
