I'm currently happy with a 1.9 TGD but I have seen references to a 1.9 turbodiesel BX hybrid. Insurance hassles notwithstanding, is this on? If it is, how many horses? Do you start from a 1900 diesel or a 1700 turbodiesel base car. A 1900 turbodiesel estate sounds like a worthwhile escapade. Is it an easy swap and what is the economy like. Somebody out there must have done it if it is doable. What's the verdict?

Tom,
The 1.9 TD engine is tuned to the same BHP (90) as the 1.7 - it just makes a bit more torque. The change is not really worthwhile unless you need a new engine, and you have a 1.9 lying around. Either can be tuned to about 105 BHP 'just' by tweaking the turbo wastegate and pump fuelling. AFAIK 1.9 engine drops straight in. You'd want to start with a TD base car as they have uprated driveshafts.

Couple of observations here.
I've put a 1.9TD in a blown up BX 17TD. No real hassles BUT
1)We used the BX Td box on the 1.9td engine, and had to fit the Bx flywheel on the 1.9TD engine. If you choose to use the 19TD box it uses a pull clutch, so easier to keep the Bx setup.
2) The 1.9Td drives either a cam driven vacuum pump (ZX, 306 etc) or an HP pump driven by the alternator belt (Xantia). On the BX the HP pump is gearbox mounted and driven by the cam pulley.
So, the choice is to use the BX cam in the 1.9TD engine (BX cam has threaded hole for drive pulley), or use a Xantia 6 piston pump left where it would be on a Xantia, and slightly modify the Xantia HP pipe from the pump to the flow valve.
Apart from that, all easy.
