Xantia screen washers not working

Post by bumperman »

My washers have suddenly stopped working, plenty of liquid in reservoir but no whirring of pump motor(where is it located-under driver's wing?). Handbook says same fuse as wipers and they work OK. No other electrical faults.

Any ideas? How do I get access to washer pump? Should I suspect control stalk?

Thanks

John

the washer tank is in the front wing forward of the O/S front wheel, to gain access you have to un bolt/clip the front half of the wheel arch protector, then you will see the pump which is a two way one, i think if your rear washer is working it might not be the pump as all the swithching dose is reverses the direction(polarity) of the pump motor

Thanks citronut, washers weren't working front or rear.
I eventually got round to looking at the problem recently and diagnosed faulty pump-what a horrible job! removed wheel arch liners & front bumper, cutting off various seized bolts & making new washer bottle cradle nut plate to replace snapped off weld nuts. That job now done & washers good!

thanks again

Same problem with mine at the moment... I think there are two pumps on mine, one operating the headlight washers. Where did you pick up a replacement pump from John?

f00lzz - I obtained my pump from a local motor factor, cost £9 retail.
My pump had 2 outlets, 1 for windscreen, 1 for tailgate.
I don't have headlight washers.

Fiddly job removing removed wheel arch liners & front bumper, cutting off various seized bolts & making new washer bottle cradle nut plate to replace snapped off weld nuts.

Could probably be done without removing front bumper-I don't know.

hope this helps

The washer tank can be removed and refitted by removing
- front wheel
- wheel arch liners
- headlight (3 torx screws) and front light

Headlight washer motor is located above the windscreen washer motor (almost same level as the fluid level sensor).
