Xantia heater workin intermitantly

Post by graham593192 »

The heater on my mk2 xantia has started working intermitantly in the last fortnight.

Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it decides to come on after about 5 minutes by which time the car is steamed up and i can't see anything and other times it doesn't work and then decides to come on after about 5 minutes. It doesn't seem to matter what I do with the controls, they never seem to get it going, it just starts when it wants.

Where should I start looking to try and sort this out? Its a bit of a pain at the moment as the car is a bit damp inside at the moment due to all this rain and the fact I left my wet sailing gear in there for 3 days!!

On my 1.9TD, a failing alternator made the blower work intemittently.
Check yours with a multi meter as it's best to catch it before it dies.
Might not be the issue, but it's a new cause that I'd not heard about before.

If its anything like the mk 1`s,it sounds like the ignition switch wiring.Do a search for it,there is plenty about it on here!!!Very common, but a easy fix.I had it on my Xantia too.
