When you do we should race and get someone to film it, then we can be cool on utube.
But it would be nice to see the difference for real.
I would like to get one fitted, but insurence company wanted to charge more and have certification of how many mroe horses it had.
And now I'm married I think this might not be classed as a need.

know how it feels carnt spend the pennies when you tied the knot .
theres one for £90 takes it up to 160 bhp and one for £150 gives 170 bhp
on ebay big diff in price for 10 bhp
the 2nd one does say you can take it off one car and fit to another one for some extra pennies which to me is good at least you buy it for life (as long as its a diesel )
i have had a few good feedbacks off other people with different cars etc
regarding these devices
well pay day on friday so might have a mad moment
will let you know the outcome
cheers

Those prices are cheaper than the £350+ I've seen for powerbox style ones.
Not sure why there is a 10hp difference, perhaps the lower one is being cautious?
Now one of those with the dual exaust and a way of forcing the suspension to stay on low and your would be as cool as the vectra owners round here

I fitted a tuning box to my Xantia 110 HDi, it improved it when setting off from standstill but didn't seem to make much difference otherwise.
I'm not sure this one size fits all is the best way to go. From what I can gather they just fool the ECU into upping the common rail pressure which means more fuel is injected. If you have the budget a proper remap should be better.
Steve.

What makes a remap better? And if you have a remap, and then get it serviced by a dealer, is the remap wiped if they update the software in the computer?steelcityuk wrote: If you have the budget a proper remap should be better.

I had my 406 Hdi 110 re mapped to aprox 140 bhp.I also use a K & N panel filter. It cost £185 from a man on Ebay.It made a big difference tomine.Much more drivable at lower revs, pulls very strongly now from 1400 rpm ish all the way to the red line.If i floor it from a standing start i can get the tyres to screech on the change to 2nd & 3rd .
But overall very impressed. It was a good tow car before, but now the extra power is great for towing our large caravan.Out pulled my Dad`s 407 Hdi 136 on our caravan trip to Italy on the long climbs.Gained about 3-5 mpg in every day driving too.I do get a bit of clutch slip sometimes up some hills in 5th,but its the oringinal on 82k with lots of towing.
I would be very sceptical of some so called tuning devices on Ebay, with are nothing more than a few wires & chips, better to go for a well known tuning box,or a re map.
Now wheres my cam corder so i can you tube my wheel spin!!!

A remap is better because the ECU map that's used can be changed in several ways not just simply putting more fuel in that a basic tuning box will. Depending on the car it can alter the ignition/injection timing/duration and boost levels. Top of the tree has to be a 'personalised' remap that's done on a rolling road.
There used to be some really good tuning reviews on a diesel car magazine website, can't find it now. But basically they'd rolling road the car first to check it was producing what it should (some didn't) then remap the ECU and run the test again. If the car had problems they'd fix that first.
Yes I suppose if a dealer was to update the software it could wipe the remap.
