Self-healing HDi??

Post by neil123 »

2001 110 Xantia estate, 91k miles. Driving perfectly when last driven on Saturday, came to start it this morning and it sort of 'coughed', almost as though trying to fire backwards. then, cranked over without starting for a while, and on second attempt, started but with a lot of unburnt fuel smoke and bad misfire on trying to rev up to move off. Abandoned ship and took my other car to work, fearing the worst with the Xantia. Imagined all sorts of problems all day, came in tonight, Xant started first thing and ran perfectly. Any ideas? is it going to recur?

Cheers guys...

Could have been a few drops of water reaching your high pressure injection lines.
That will make haywock for some time and then clear up as the engine gets going.

Could be the first signs of a intermitant electric fuel lift pump under the back seats??Sounds a bit like my 406 started doing late last year when the rear fuel pump started cutting cuting out.Later traced to a sensor though.

Cheers guys - no recurrence so far, touch wood. Running well, so will just have to let it develop!

Thanks again
