Diesel problems

Post by Doc »

Does anyone know if the 2.1 turbo diesel has a blanking plug fitted at the end of the injector leak off pipes? (Flywheel end). I have read previous topics which says that a faulty blanking plug and leakoff pipes allow air in.
XM is going to a diesel specialist on Tuesday as I am p*!ssed of with looking for leaks. Anyone know if an auto bleed valve can be fitted to the fuel lines. (Bosch mechanical pump)
Now I know why my XM diesel is so economical... its because it has been sitting on my drive for the last week therefore fuel consumption is nil.
I am not usually this cynical in fact I'm the opposite but this car has worn my patience to breaking point. If this is what happens to a car with a full checkable service history in A1 condition, God help all those poor souls who bought one with unknown history.
Perhaps someone can send words of encouragement before Citroen and I part company for good.

Hi Doc
Don't despair.
You can't bleed the system because the pump sucks diesel from the tank. If air gets into the system along the way it plays havoc because the pump operates using hydraulics (well my Rotodiesel pump does-your Bosch pump probably works the same way and is renowned for being a lot more reliable!). The best way for finding air is to put in bits of clear plastic pipe in the line at suitable points such as before and after the handpump and at the tank.
The injectors each have two leak off connections and are all connected together with leak off pipes which return fuel to the return pipe from the pump. The injector at the flywheel end has a blanking plug.
I don't think this is your problem because air getting in here would cause, say, an overnight starting problem as this part of the system is after the pressurized injectors.

Thanks XM Nut, I will patch in clear tube in an effort to check for air bubbles. I have this gut feeling the offending pipe will be the main supply from the tank as this one has a fabric outer layer.
I will let you know what we find.
Many thanks again,
