Veg oil in France

Post by fridgedoc »

Hi

Does anybody know with accuracy the situation in France concerning veggie oil, as I am moving there very shortly and the last thing I need is aggro with the gendarmes, the last bit of info said it was a big no no or should I say non non.

Your help would be appreciated

Many thanks
Bonne Chance

Stephen

Sunflower oil is their favourite, and there’s a fair bit of old chip oil being used.
Here’s a 32-page topic to practice French:

Big NON is correct, but given that the price of DERV is only 70% of the price of petrol, is it worth all the aggro?

There is no benefit financially to using Veggie oil in France, as the cost per litre is about the same as diesel. For some reason veggie oil is more expensive there.
It's not the Gendamerie you have to be concerned about, but the Douane.
They also carry big guns, and lock you up. And I have seen them stop cars.

100% correct Brian.

Gendarmes WILL lock you up and even shoot you if you behave badly enough, so.... on the other hand they tend not to be Cleverdick and overbearing (unlike the Woodentops) unless provoked. They are normally professional and polite, as well as amenable to a bit of not-too-obvious grovelling, which in UK is usually pointless.

But of course it is equally the Douane (Customs) in UK that will feel your collar for using 35sec heating oil (red diesel) in your road going vehicle....
