Hi all,
I'm thinking of changing my current MPV for a Fiat Ulysse 2.2JTD. Since I believe the engine is actually the PSA 2.2HDI, its better I check the French forums.
I do own a 2.0HDI ( 8V 110BHP ) Xsara. Currently in dock with a failed water pump and maybe the HG was gone. Jury still out...
For the later generation of 16V lumps, I'd like to know all the trouble spots eg :-
Timing belts /aux belts : life span , known failures
Pulleys / Tensioners : ditto
Water pump ( mine failed @ 123k miles )
Fuel pumps / injectors / EGR valves
HG failures
I heard rumours the 2.0 was a more reliable lump, but need a 2.2 for towing.
Thx

If the injectors ever go good luck trying to get them out of the head, its a well known problem that the injectors sieze in the head.ebod wrote: Fuel pumps / injectors / EGR valves

use oil or water?
My '02 c5 130k miles - gets taken on trips down to the Loire, on the autoroutes, kept to around 75 ish on the cruise ( any more and it drinks the diesel, but this is with a roof box).On the return journey its usually loaded with around 100 litres of wine (boxes and bottles) and I cannot ever remember topping up either oil or water.
No rocketship but it seems to do the job.

That's exactly what's just happened to my Mums' VW Golf TDi, three years old @ 8,000 miles. Cost of repair £1000. Thankfully VW were suitably embarrassed enough to pay for the majority of the repairjeremy wrote:Is the 2.2 the one with the dual mass flywheel? - Definitely a sign of progress as the thing falls apart apparently - leaving you to pay the bill.

The 2.0 HDI 110 has a dual mass flywheel. Mine didn't fall apart but the clutch started slipping. On removal the friction plate looked brand new.
