Xantia TD Bleed point

Post by steviewonder7 »

Hi folks,
A trivial question here, but nether the less important for me.
I've just been refilling my cooling system and following the manual's proceedure where you release one of the bleed screw caps.Well in my case i
had the bleed screw removed from the 't' junction pipework which sits just above the diesel pump and behind the the cam cover plate.
I was just going to replace the bleed screw cap(as water was escaping) when
I had a case of butter fingers and the dam cap fell somewhere behind the diesel pump,I presume??
:x
Could I find the bleeder(sorry about the pun) Could i heck.
So i had a light bulb bubble appear above my head and thought,I know perhaps one of those bicycle tire valve caps would fit ! Sure enough it fits,
but I'm unsure whether it'll be a goog enough fit though.Would it last the hot and cold cycle of the cooling system?
Has anyone else had the same/similar problem and what was their answer to solve it.I'd be interested to know.
Thanks in advance to any of your answers.

It will be ok, those little things are so common and nothing special. Good thinking there. I will be doing the same as you in a bit so thanks for the tip.

If you look at them they are different to tyre valve caps. They have a little o ring in them. They are very cheap from citroen and peugeot.

Metal valve caps are often sold by accessory shops end even Halfords. Few people bother with them as they get lost when your tyres are changed but they do look nice till they get dirty and corroded.

Pressure shouldn't be too much of a problem as the cooling system is regulated to a max of 15psi by the radiator cap.
