C5 Antipollution Engine Warning

Post by frenchcarnut »

Came up about two weeks ago, so I took it to my Citroen fitter and asked him to do the usual general servicing but who in turn could only suggest a diagnostic test for the antipollution warning. Today I took it out for a spin along country lanes and lo and behold, warning went out.

I've heard before that these benefit from a dust out occasionally but didn't think it would work in this case. Hmmm, wonder how long before warning message comes up again?

Would this have anything to do with a general service?

Perhaps my buddy inspected the particle filter, refitted it and that did the trick?

That message could be caused by numerous faults. It could be a wiring fault on one of the many solenoid valves, controlling the EGR etc. That's the message I got when I accidentally knocked a connector off one.
If it was the FAP you would get a different message like "unblock diesel filter"

I ought to go around and check - if only I knew where they were. Actually I have that pdf service manual downloaded so I will start to learn. The warning went off a few days ago and returned briefly yesterday only to extinguish again!

So it's worth me looking to see if any are loose. Climatic conditions might be affecting mine I suspect.

Yes I think I understand that now after reading through the manual last night and the reading all the available warning signs. Thanks for confirming :D

There is a pressure switch on top of, or beside the Air Filter. Check this switch, which can be damaged when changing the Air Filter. When my sons C5 displayed this fault - replacement of this switch was the answer

The turbo at a dealers is £1050 inc fitting

The wastegate is a bit of the turbo that can get clogged. It may just need this bit cleaned rather than a whole new turbo

Well we just got married, so have some wedding money ready if the cleaning don't work. Don't really want to have to get one. £1000 is a lot of Wii games.

Think a non Dealer may charge around £700 to fit one.
