Airbag removal and key fob replacement

Post by XantiaMan »

Hi guys,

Need to remove the airbag/steering wheel from my Xantia, do i need to disconnect the battery for a short while or will i be ok?

I also need to replace the keyfob, the rubber was getting tatty but the dog decided he would remove the rubber completely this morning, if i get another keyfob is it easy to reprogram?

You should disconnect the battery. The bags should not deploy, but you don´t want to hear "I told you" in this situation...

Regarding the key - it´s easy to reprogram, but if the circuitry is intact I´d just put it on the new key.

The keys internals are fine but the rubber cover over the switches doesnt exist anymore hence reason for replacement.

I only needed to remove the airbag and wheel to fit my Activa wood trim but i found a way around it

So you don´t need to reprogram your new key... Just use the old circuitry on the new shell.

The rivet that holds the key is made in two pieces that join in the middle. You can insert a suitable tool, such as a blade or screwdiver, between the key and and the case and ease the case apart by a mm or two. This should split the rivet, which can then be flicked out with the blade. The rivet can be re-used.
