EGR disconnected, will it self-clean?

Post by MikeT »

Now the EGR is disabled, will any possible manifold fouling eventually clean itself? I frequently rev it hard in gear when driving as I understand this will help clear out the exhaust - does it help the inlet too?

If no, apart from dismantling and cleaning it, is there a spray product or similar I can buy that is known to work?

On a side note, can anyone recommend a good injector cleaner?

I reckon no, that sticky crap is very hard to get rid of, over time some will come off but the manifolds really need to come off to clean them properly.

I thought dismantling was the only option but hoped someone might have found a miracle-in-a-can that you can just squirt up a pipe or hose.

As the EGR valve is now non-functional, does it matter if it's not cleaned? I was more concerned about the rest of the inlet manifold & valves.

i think all the EGR valve dose is re/burns some of the exhaust gas to reduce the NOX, which is not measured at the MOT with diesels, and im sure it wont make any diferance if its cloged up
