I've seen then all, on autotrader and ebay, and if you mix them altogether it would make the perfect car.

I am considering the 2.0i sei though. But after seeing the figures for the 2.1td, it's like having an angel on one shoulder, and a devil on the other, problem is, they both keep swapping.

Thanks so far.

There's a nice 2.5td there too, bit wary of that engine, but if it's cheap... what can you guys tell me about that engine? Can anyone dig up the fuel consumption info from it?

Thanks

The 2.5 is a very nice engine, fuel consumption nearly as good as the 2.1 but, if you think the 2.1 is difficult to work on, try a 2.5, it only just fits in the engine compartment! Another problem is availability of spares, there are very few 2.5s about. The 2.1 was used, as I'm sure you know, in the Xantia and the 406 and there are still a lot of them about. Personally, I would leave the 2.5 alone.

I'd second that. A pal's 2.5 kept shredding it's aux belt and after the second
one went in a week it again needed Cit Indy specialist help which saw them
renew the expensive tensioner/idler pulleys that nobody could get and in
fact the specialist admitted he'd very rarely worked on a 2.5 in an Xm!!

It most definitely isn't a DIY car - I tried in vain to help but didn't have
bizarre cit tools to do a poxy 'simple' aux belt....ffs!!

Fuel consumption certainly isn't any better than the 2.1 and not far off the
pace of a boggo 2.0i petrol...

On the balance of things, starting fresh without all my baggage, for daily use
I'd get the 2.0 SEi and consider a 1.9TD Xant est as a perfect complimentary
opposite pairing and have a swordfish grey CX GTi Turbo1 s1 for when I
want the looks and hair on fire driving buzz for occasional use and fine
weekends...

I'm there already but just can't whittle down the additional fleet!!

Not quite!!

I am 20, and i have had 2 XM's now!!!!

I travelled from Glasgow to Wrexham for my current 24v one, had to trailer it home!!

The other one i travelled from Glasgow to Rhosneigr for!!

My 24v was a bargain, but the history of the car was unknown, £10 later for an HPi Check, all was revealed, and the car was perfectly legit!! :)

Hi David

The appeal is timeless, I was 68 when I bought the last one and the only thing which will stop me buying another is that there dont seem to be any more Mk2, 2.1 td manual estates! :(

Thanks David

They are easy to spot, the '96 reg ones are all 'N---YBL' They only sold 61 and I have had three of them! I have two now. Practically all the later ones are auto.

I had a 95 2.0 CT Auto estate when I was 24 (I'm 26 now). I sold it last year. It was a fantastic car - very comfortable, good performance (although nowhere near as good as my Activa) and reliable. The thing which made me sell was the horrendous fuel consumption (rarely bettering 23 mpg). I understand the manual would be better but these are big heavy cars and any petrol one is going to be thirsty... My current Acadiane, on the other hand, is doing way over 40 mpg around town (although not quite as fast!).

If I were in a postion to do so, I'd buy a manual 2.0 CT hatchback and save it for long journeys (but then, I also miss my old CX and would like another of those..)

Thanks,

Rob

Well as long as it's similar to my Xantia V6 then I won't complain, this one isn't making me bankrupt like my old BMW did. I would assume the 2.0i CT will have a slightly better MPG than the V6, and I will convert it to manual if the autobox fails or i get bored of it, this one i doubt i will sell, it's more of a classic than the xantia v6.

Re: the cars and their whereabout, previous owners, versions etc... they all seem to have been owned by someone you know of, or they come from a certain area, or you may get one with a similar registration... never come across cars with such tight variables. Example... i've had two 1998 Xantia's R960 PKV, and now this R707 PKV, i've seen two XM's from around the same time with MKV and EKV, and I'm sure i've seen a YBL somewhere, hunting down an XM, I came across connections between cars/previous owners etc.
