Hi Malcolm,

I think the answer is probably no - I have had both a punctured and a newly fitted anti-sink sphere on mine and noticed no difference in the ride - only in the amount of time it took to lift in the mornings. (And some improvement in rear brake response)

Having said that an anti-sink sphere near the end of its life may be bubbling nitrogen out into the suspension, and those bubbles could cause temporary ride harshness, but citrerobics would (temporarily) take care of that.

Can you describe what you mean by "very harsh ride" ? Just at the rear or at the front too ? Do you mean a bone jarring clatter over things like manhole covers and curbs ? Does it feel ok on a bounce test ?

Are the rear arm bearings ok ? Rear suspension chassis rubber mounting bushes ?

Regards,
Simon

If its a hydractive, which it will be if its a VSX, you need to change the centre spheres, they are the ones responsible for the soft ride.

hi Simon and Peter when i first got the car i fitted new rear spheres which made a big differance to the ride, but as usual then the front end showed up more so, i just notice the not smooth ride on particular roads that i use every day, it seems to be more the front end, it is very harsh but not bouncing, with the stationery bounce test it feels soft at both ends, and Peter no its not HYDRACTIVE, just the basic system, i am considering getting my old BX back on the road

Hi Malcolm

If the suspension has a reasonable ammount of movement, say 4-6", the most likely culpret is the tyres. Have you changed them lately for a different type, are the pressures correct, do they have a good tread? all these factors can have an effect on the ride. I run mine slightly under inflated and it makes quite a difference to the softness over small irregularities - not that I am advocating this of course!

If you can, load the boot up with a lot of weight.
My 2.1TD feels really harsh unless the boot is given some work to do, then it's actually really nice.
