More Xantia questions!

Post by XantiaMan »

What size are my dipped beam headlight bulbs?

What size are the rear speakers?

Does anyone know the make and output of my head unit? Seems to be a bit feeble in wattage and debating putting an aftermarket headunit in, but like the fact i can plug in my ipod and have wheel controls, so maybe a higher spec one might do the job?

Was the panel on the tailgate where the number plate goes colour coded when Mk2 came in?

And finally i have a knocking noise coming from the front, even on fairly smooth roads you can hear it, i've been told this is the anti roll bar drop links?

Headlights are H1 type bulbs 55w. The rear speakers on mine seem to be the same as the front, I think they are 5 inch and the stereo appears to be a Clarion.

The number plate recess was black on mk1's and colour coded on mk2's and the knocking noise is almost certainly the drop links, but don't buy the cheap ones as they only last about 10k miles.

i have a after market stereo in my little beasty. take the front fascia surround off but be careful not to break the clips, then its just some torx screw that hold the stereo unit in.

You can get a after market fascia for the xantia from car-audio-accessories online for cheap , and a after market stereo will slot strait in.

If you find speakers to fit, let me know what ones they are and where you got them from, I'm still looking my self. though the standard ones are not to bad, but start distorting soon as i add any bass :(

Hmm, the ones speakers in my SX's are definitely loud enough.
Only thing that isn't loud is the aux port on the front, have to crank up the volume on my ipod to full.

I've replaced the drop links one at a time, it was the drivers side that was shot, it fell apart in my hand and the bottom part was not fully tightened up so about 90% perfect now, i can still hear a slight knock which could a balljoint but if there is no play i'll live with it.

I've not yet got a 4030 but one is on its way and also a blaupunkt amp if its not loud enough.

Does the VSX/Activa have uprated speakers as well?

And also are the main beam H1 aswell?

Yes mains are H1 as well. I think Pioneer used to do a speaker upgrade kit for the Xantia which included the tweeters on the dash.

That may or may not be the best place to buy them.

I have now got hold of a 4030 and blimey what a big difference, much better quality and depth, you can actually turn the volume up without the speakers distorting! The speakers i also got hold of but it appears my car already has the 'better' speakers rated at 20 watts RMS so i've left them as they are in good condition.

I have painted the rear number plate surround and fitted an Activa rear spoiler, will take some pictures later, looks much better!

The better speakers are 50w. They make one hell of a difference, I'd keep looking if I where you.
