A medium term job on my list for one Xantia is to repair the fuel gauge. I gather that ages ago the previous owner was towed home after smoke rising from the dash on a journey. Garage removed instruments to find the board had burnt out where the fuel gauge connection pin was normally fixed. It was just left disconnected, everything else seems to work OK.
Current owner is all for getting a secondhand set of instruments and me fitting them. Not knowing what caused the first fault I'm worried that a short further back will just ruin the replacement set too.
Anyone suffered a similar problem?
