Which XM?

I was wondering if it was an issue with the effectiveness of the XM foot operated "hand" (park) brake. Should not be so except for a somewhat different cable installation to the usual layout found in Xantia (- and BX, though this does not have the center cable).
Its still adjusted the same way on all 3 models :
with car at standstill & engine running, press down the brakepedal further beyond the usual bottom stop. There will be a further movement which needs a quite heavier push. Pump the pedal a few times in this position.
Now the parking brake should be up on the first few clicks.

They are no more complicated than Xantia's and being bigger there is more room to get to some bits.
The parking brake isnt a problem when you've been driving them for 12 years! Seriously, only inexperienced drivers would have any problem with the parking brake, and its not likely that they would want to drive one. All five of mine have been manual.

1) Just super cars - all of them
2) With feckin' difficulty on uphill starts!

1) I'd love an XM and I've promised myself one, one day.. Hang the expense and complexity and make mine a V6 auto hatchback.
2) For those of you with manual XMs, how do you cope with the parking brake?

with the v6 24v manual, you just bring the clutch to the bite, pull up the park brake, and it'll go.
There is bags of torque at idle.
It'll pull off effortlessly in 3rd gear when on the flat.
Personally the only XM i will own is a Series 1 V6 24v.
Mine is going in for a full respray, the wheels refurbished, and general tidying up sometime in the next couple of months hopefully.
David.
