Post by xf8u »

Some of you may well remember my Xantia 2.1 with a knackered pump. I have not been able to locate a second hand one anywhere.
Is there anyone interested in my car as spares or repair. All it needs it a pump. The rest of car is is great shape. Interior mint. 112k miles Dark green, alloys, aircon. New cambelt, aux belt, front and rear disks and pads. oil and filters at 110k

If you give some more details it may help shift it a bit quicker:- Location, Price, M.O.T, Pictures etc, etc

Placing it in the For Sale section will be a big start to selling it.

All the best - Craig.

I take it this is the EPIC pump, as the purely mechanical ones seem to last forever. Had you thought of fitting a mechanical pump, there must be loads of those around and the swap shouldn't be difficult. If its the same as the XM even the throttle cable is the same, just ends in a different place. If it isnt the same make as your existing one (Bosch or CAV Rotodiesel) you will need to change the injector pipes a well.

don't limit your search to just a xantia, the xm had the same engine, and i think also the synergie, the pug 605 etc etc, look in scrap yards, on ebay, wherever, there must be a cheap car somewhere to buy, cheaper than a pump, you can then sell the car as spares or repairs or sell it to the scrappers to reimburse urself... good luck

Most XMs have mechanical pumps, only 'P' reg onward have the EPIC. There are plenty of early XMs being scrapped, have a look on ebay. The 2.1 is also used in the Peugeot 406 and they do have the EPIC pump.

Thanks for advice. I am based in Manchester. The car would have to be trailered away. I think 200quid is a fair price, considering the work I have previously carried out. Taxed and Mot'd (not much test though)
I will get some photos sorted asap
Thanks

Hi slim, I really would be grateful if you could help me out here. I have tried all my local breakers in Manchester. It is the Lucas EPIC injection pump I need. It's not the mechanical one.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Mike

Mike,

Finding a used EPIC pump in a scrappie may be a task of epic proportions (sorry, couldn't resist it  )

Depending on what is up with it, you may find it economical to take it to your local Diesel Specialist and have them repair it.

Removing the pump from a good engine makes the engine just about worthless. Not an option IMHO.
You would have to buy the complete engine then.

The XM2.1TD pump is exactly the same - in the earlier purely mechanical version.
Donno on the Renault Espace. They had some variants with PSA engines. It looks pretty much the same as the XM one, but would also be a mechanical pump.

Even if still an expensive solution, a trade in swap for an overhauled & tested unit may still be the cheapest option. Could be more than the trade value of the car though

I had a quick look at that one Andy. It's got a throttle pot on it and will have the electronic timing control so in addition to the injectors and pipes, you'd also need the ECU to go with it

I'd steer clear of this particular one. The picture shows it apparantly black, wet and dirty. This suggests to me it's been leaking. Diesel seems to leave black stains.

I am still sure it would much easier and cheaper to fit a mechanical one - not to mention - more reliable :D :D

Fully in agreement with that Peter :) No reason why it should not be fine. Xac and I know it is certainly possible and not too difficult to transplant a fully mechanical pump onto a late 1.9TD using either an earlier Xantia, early 406 or 405 pump.

The pump backplate also has plenty of spare tappings for other pumps as well.

I keep on pondering how a pump designed for a 1.9TD would behave on a 2.1TD but it really needs someone willing to go for it to see how it works.
