On this model the intermediate section of the exhaust is integral with catalyst. This means that if the joint to the silencer at the rear corrodes you have to replace the catalyst as there is no seperate intermediate section. The alternative appears to be to get the whole thing out and do a bit of careful welding.
It appears that the 2.0 16v does have an intermediate pipe as it is listed in the GSF parts list.
GSF also list a catalyst repair section for the 1.8. Does anyone have experience of using this and what exactly does it do.

Looking on the Bosal website, a repair intermediate pipe is avalible P/N 889-171(a) To fit this pipe, it looks like you cut the original intermedate pibe from the cat leaving a small stub section behind. The repair section then slides onto/ into this and then is clamped up. Check it out at
