Coolant warning light on with ignition - off when started

Yep. they roared alright - frit the life out of me! :shock: :lol:
then clean up the pins and reconnect, then waggle to wire to see if you can generate a fault (is fans come on).
Both the sensor and the bitron connections were tightly fitted. I tested the continuity from from the plug to pins 7 (6.1R) and 14 (1.8R) and wiggled the connectors, loom etc but could not find a hint of trouble. Now it's all back together again the problem has gone away :!: Thank you for your input Richard.
