bx16v and pug mi16 differences

Post by jr20516v »

I am just about to buy some adjustable vernier cam gears for the bx16v
however nobody in their advertisements mention verniers for the bx16v
but do have them for the mi16. i believe they are exactly the same lump..am i safe in purchasing the mi16 ones?

...so long as the Mi16 ones are for the 1.9 rather than the later 2.0 then it won't make any difference whether they're advertised as BX or 405 items, it'll be the same part.
Are you fitting wild cams?

Adrian is spot on, both the Mi16 1.9 and BX 16v use the same engine, the XU9J4, and all engine parts (except the HP pump on the BX, for obvious reasons!!!!) are the same.

thanx fellas for your replies.
Adrian, yes i have already fitted wild cams [320, 3500rpm-7000rpm]
they are excellent however need the verniers for that little bit more fine tuning. Oh yeah! where do you suggest to buy the verniers at the best price?
Jon, same lump of motor however i'm told by a reliable wrecker that the inlet manifold is deffo. different [also lower than mi16]
would this be correct as my next step is throttle bodies?
cheers to all

The manifolds should be the same as i have a shortened 405 one on my bx lump unless hes thinking about the later 2 litre 405 mi16s which had the double intake pipes on the front like the zx 16v/306 s16.
320 cams??! heh. What power are you putting out? I only have 265's in mine at the moment with some head work. Throttle bodies and one of those lumentian ecus would do nicely for me.

Along with headwork, 320 cams and motech i am getting 198hp however
until i get the verniers she has been 'detuned" down to 185 on the rolling road as that seems to be where its happiest for driveability.
Hopefully with the verniers will be able to adjust that much better.
I think you have the more sensible cams [265] as i think 320 is too extreme but ive got them now so i'll have to make good with them.
What throttle bodies do you think are the best and why??

Can't help you there sorry as I have no idea :)
a good place for information on the 16v engine is www.pumaracing.com
throttle bodies would give you quite a increase over what you currently have. Do you a remappable(?) ecu like one of those Lumention ones I think they are called.
Due to having little money for this year I am concentrating on weight savings in the car, managed to get just over 9kg off a rear door which is a good start. It should come down to about 820kg when finished including the roll cage etc
