EGR pipe disconnected

Post by MikeT »

Thanks to this forum I've identified a loose pipe that should go to the EGR valve - which explains why my car always idles a little high (appx1000rpm). From what I've read, it's ok to NOT have EGR but is it ok to have the pipe unplugged (will it cause any problems) or should I seal it off with a bung or something?

There are two sets of electrovalves behind the lhm tank - one of them is for the egr the other is for the advance on the back of the pump - this is the one that will more likely cause the idle rev to be high.

I had a mobile mechanic out today who replaced the leak-off pipes, glow plugs and did a diagnositc on the ABS all for £40 (not including parts) which toook him 1hr40mins including chat time. He also replaced and refitted the EGR pipe for me too so that's not an issue anymore.

Hi MikeT,
Was your engine management light on, or hasn't your car got that system.
Thanks,
Greg

Hi Gregg1100, I have an engine silhoutte light with an asterisk I think, in the middle that comes on with the ignition and soon goes out. It has never lit up out of turn on me even when I had both ABS and airbag on constantly. Does that mean something to you? I'm not sure what should or shouldn't trigger the engine management light though suspect hydraulic and engine temperature sensors are likely candidates.
