Hmmm....Had the drums off today, both sides came off easily! The drums themselves seem absolutely fine (unless out of round of course, which isn't visible to the naked eye). No lip or any build ups of grease etc. I think the problem is my offside cylinder is seized. The shoes, particularly the back shoe (one nearest back of car, the one the handbrake acts on, don't look like they've had much contact with the drum recently. I pressed the brake pedal hard a few times leaning right out of the car and noticed only the front shoe was moving at all, and that not by much, so I'm assuming the vibration could be caused by only one shoe contacting the drum maybe? All shoes had plenty of friction material left.
First thing to try is two new cylinders then. Noticed the brake pipes are completely f*cking seized at both the cylinder and flexible hose end <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>. I think I'm going to take it to a garage to get the rear cylinders and brake pipes replaced and brakes all bled etc. Trouble is I don't trust any garage to do the job properly! But then I can't be bothered to do it myself-I bloody hate working on brakes and I've only got the weekends to do it in a small single garage. What a nightmare, I'll have to phone around on monday. Maybe some mole grips on the brake pipes to get them off?
Of course if new cylinders don't sort it out could be the drums gone oval.

Please note that it is perfectly possible to balance a brick, that doesn't mean you'll get a perfect ride. Likewise having perfectly balanced tyres and wheels doesn't guarantee a good ride!
