Xantia ignition key heating up intermittently

Post by JohnW »

I wondered if anyone has had a repeated issue with an intermittently warm to hot ignition key. The worry is that something else electrical may be much hotter!
I had the switch replaced under warranty (not the lock, but the rotating electrical device behind it, and the associated cables, which come as a unit) and it is still doing it.
My local man told me that Citroen had an (unofficial) fix for this, putting a relay in to switch the current for the ventilation fans, which draw a bit much for the ignition switch itself.
Comments most welcome! This is not something I'd want to go wrong on a hot day 200 km from nowhere.

The device is really a little under-dimensioned, so it's a good idea to put the relay (about 30 A) into the ventilator circuit. As I know, only contacts for this circuit are affected, and without the relay, they usually start to make problems with the ventilator after a few years.

Alex,
Thanks for that advice. It'll be done in a couple of weeks!
