Xantia 2.0 'economy'

Post by RichardW »

..or otherwise 8) All questions tonight! Anybody give me a hint what the real world MPG for a 2.0i Xantia is? Average is quoted about 31. There's a nice looking S plate Exclusive on AutoTrader but it's 2.0i rather than 2.0 HDi - and if the comparison is 30 vs 50 mpg, then that's >£1300 a year extra for me to run the petrol - more than the car is up for!!! 35 might just about be acceptable compared to the 40 of the 1.9TD given the extra performance.

Hi Richard,

You don't specify whether its manual or automatic ?

My 2.0i Auto does 27Mpg around town and about 33Mpg on a trip. (The 33 was taken over 500Km with 3 passengers and a full boot of gear)

At a guess I would say a manual would get better Mpg around town, but there wouldn't be much difference on a trip.

You'd be struggling to get 35Mpg on any 2 litre petrol car that weighs almost 1300Kg IMHO....

Simon

you mean the silver one? it's a very nice car, it did cross my mind, but i reckon the wallet breaking V6 would do me well... which makes ur possible 2.0 economical, does that help... oh and i'm going from a diesel too :?

A 2.1td would probably give you somewhere near the 2.0 petrol performance, with a better fuel consumption than the 1.9td.

Xantia 2.0 'economy'

Post by Gregg1100 »

Hi Richard,
The most I have got out of my P-reg 16v 2litre Xantia was 36 mpg, on a run from Cwmbran to Worthing. I didn't clog it either. Around town about 25-28.

About the same as my Activa. It is interesting to note that the 2.0i (which I'm assuming is a 16 valve engine) is not much different, in petrol, consumption terms, to the 8 valve CT engine.

Believe me, such consumption figures are quite a shock after years in a TD  On the upside, you get on very friendly terms with your local petrol station

I have quite a tall pile of Shell V-Power collector cards now. Only rivalled by my son feeding his 200SX on the same stuff

The 2.0i (mine included) is the 8 valve engine - the 16v ones are refered to as 2.0i 16v.

I have an 8 valve Xantia 2.0i with 240K klms on the clock.
Around town I constantly get around 28 mpg on a run over 35 and one trip I did last year was almost 2000 klms with 5 people on board and more luggage (garbage) than you can imagine in your wildest dreams in temps that went at times up to 50C were aroung 43 - 47C most of the times with the air/con operating and averaging around 100/110 kph and I averaged 33 mpg which I though was great.
Don't get too excited about autos not being as economical as I have found particularly with the BX that the autos are every bit if not more economical. They work entirely different to the old style autos and driven correctly can be even more economical than a manual.

According to a local independent near me, he believes the 2.0 16v is MORE economical than the 1.8 16v.

Based on my fuel consumption on my 1.8 16v is should hope so, for the drivers sake.

I get low 20s around town, and low to mid 30s on a run, i.e. it is very heavy around town. Although i did recently get 40mpg out of it recently doing 60-70mph, with a few shorts drives included :D
currently no citroens :-(

Hmm, interesting... so do you think the figures I gave are par for the course then ? I've always been a bit disapointed by 27Mpg around town since I got it....but just shrugged my shoulders and said "well, its an automatic". (I would have prefered a manual (Xantia), but they're like the proverbial hens teeth over here unless you go for a diesel - and they're not too common either, and mostly 1.9TD's)

I should add that the 33Mpg was on country roads, some of them quite windy including a trip through a forestry road, rather than straight line highway cruising...

Simon

Thanks for your input guys.

I remember now why I bought a diesel 8) And having got used to the economy, and riding torque wave without having to wring the engine's neck, I think I will leave the petrol cars alone - pity as this one looked good at first glance

Typically, now I have decided a C5 2.0 HDi 110 Estate is really the way to go, all the local ones have evaporated. Might have to buy some new tyres for the TD yet....

Reading about such mpg with UK fuel prices makes me wince. My HDi (which is for sale - see add in the relevent section) generally gives around the high 40s in day to day use and more on a run. I just hope the XM won't be too far off this.

Just to add to my previous post mine is 2.0i 8v turbo engine (RGX), the same as in activa plus my car is an estate with manual gearbox and hydroactive suspension. I love it to bits.
