Xantia V6 aux belt tensioner - job done

Post by Stempy »

The V6 needs an aux belt tensioner, looks fairly straightforward to change but does anyone know if this is a V6 specific part or if one is available from anywhere else other than Citroen, as I'd like to try and avoid paying Citroen prices?

Anyone changed one already that can offer any pointers before I delve in?

Well Citroen want £116 for the tensioner and I can't seem to source one elsewhere, so unless anyone knows if it has the same part number as one from another model looks like I'm stuck with the expensive option.

Have you asked for a price from Peugeot? Sometimes they can be cheaper for some strange reason, the part number will be the same.

Doesn't Renault use the same engine? Although I seem to remember that Renault spares prices are high.[/b]

You may not require all of the tensioner assembly!! (big bracket etc) I got mine from Citroen cost £80+ didn't have time to shop around, but trying Peugeot sounds like a good idea..

Donno if the Renaults still have the same V6's - as pr the earlier known PRV (PsaRenaultVolvo) joint venture motor programme.
Otherwise Renualts have power units different to the PSA range.

Changed the belt, tensioner and jockey wheel today. Bearings were shot on the tensioner and jockey wheel and the tensioner had partially seized which would explain the squealing belt. £170 of parts altogether.

It runs much quieter now though, you don't really notice how noisy the bearings are getting until you fit new ones. I hope I got it all right, none of the other tensioners shown in the BOL work anything like this one, but it seemed pretty straight forward once it was all apart. Certainly seems to be working ok, so far anyway.
