Bad Earth?

Post by SteveG »

It's been my day for noticing things.

If I have the blower running - the speed doesn't matter - and press the footbrake pedal the blower runs faster. Only the first time . . . it's not incremental, or anything. Does this suggest a bad earth somewhere and, if so, where should I start looking?

TIA (again)

Assuming that yours has auto temperature control, I would think that the stop lights are causing a small voltage drop that is upsetting the controler. You can check this by setting the fan to full speed and then trying, as the control circuit is out of operation then. First place to check would be the contacts on the fuses.

Always had that, the speed increasing very slightly every time the brake is applied.
That’s for the air-conditioned car with the electronic blower speed control.
Possibly that the voltage drop is affecting a reference voltage.
Never considered doing anything about it, as it’s very slight, and think that they may all be like that. :?

Hi Cloggz

All my XMs have had the electronic speed control although only one had aircon, Perhaps the Xantia's are different, or perhaps its just the VSXs. I wish it was the one I had now, its getting quite hot here in the summers , 30C+ ! Its been in double figures most of the winter.

Peter.

I think I've decided that I'm going to ignore this ... it's not like it's broken, after all :D

Mine did that too....

Also I noticed the fan speed on mine changing slightly in rythm to the blinkers! I guess the Xantia just has under rated wiring and switching for the electrical system as voltage drop problems seem to be comon - all the electrical systems seem to interact in one way or another... :?

Hi Cloggz
Hi Peter,

Looks like the electronic speed control as standard is the preserve of the upmarket XM.
The Xantia only has it on the air-conditioned cars, the others have the dropping resistors.

30ºC+ was unusual back when I used to live there, though we get that every day here now.
I’m sure that it’s actually hotter, but we depend on the media Image for forecasts and figures.
The Bureau of Meteorology is a professional organization, but the media are just buffoons in circus pants. Image
We live in a resort area, and the weather must look enticing to intending holidaymakers.

the Xantia just has under rated wiring
And it’s got some company there.
From those that I know of, the Mitsubishi Lancer blinker dims the dash lights.
The Nissan Pulsar blinker dims the headlights and sidelights.

Surely that's why it's called the "Pulser" :D
