C5 HDi Engine Swap - How Easy?

Post by DHallworth »

I have seen a C5 for sale with 143k on the clock with a dead engine as the owner ran it dry on oil.

I have a 306 HDi 90 Engine sitting in a car that i am breaking, if i were to buy the C5 and swap the injectors and everything from the old engine onto the new engine, would this work?

Has anyone undertaken this task before? If so what kind of a job was it?

Thanks in advance.

David.

Its the same engine ?

Then I dont see why not. That would possibly be an easy way round the immobiliser issue.

Sorry : seems I negated my thoughts - by forgetting the small word "not"

Providing they re the same capacity I'd have thought that you would be aiming to change the block and working parts - ie block, pistons crank etc. and use the C5 head, injection system and electronics as well as the turbo.

You'll need to do some research on the PR net to see what the differences are - and I mean things like dual mass flywheels.

Be careful over engine sizes - I think there are now 1.6HDi's and some may have 16 valves. I think the 110's have a more sophisticated turbo control (or should it be some turbo control)

its a 2.0 HDi Y reg C5 and i am 90% its a HDi 90.

I wasnt going to take the engine apart at all, just swap the electronics over so that i dont have any problems with imobilisers or anything like that.

Very few C5 LX were fitted with the HDI 90 engine. They have the black bumpers.

Check under the bonnet for an intercooler, and you'll know which engine the C5 has.

Would a 90 engine become a 110 if you installed it in a 110 car?

From reading posts regarding the differences before, I remember the 110 has a different crank shaft and it has oil sprayers under the pistons. I guess if you put the fuel system from the 110 (incl turbo and intercooler) onto the engine of a 90 it would give increased power, but maybe at the expense of engine life.

I'd certainly change the oil at half time intervals.
