Xantia Towbar Compatibility?

Post by CitroJim »

Activa owners look away now...

I'm eyeing up a very late (2000 vintage) Activa to replace my very early Xantia. I have a Witter towbar on my current Xantia which I'd like to transfer over to the new Activa (Why I suggested Activa owners look away as putting a towbar on such a car may be seen as a despicable act :D ).

Question is, will it fit? I have something nagging in the back of my mind telling me they're not the same between early and late models. Both are hatches.

On a related topic, does anyone have any experience of caravan towing with a 2L Turbo Activa?

On a related topic, is there a late (MK2) Xantia Estate in Activa version?

This site lists one Witter towbar for the entire life of the Xantia hatchback.

Not in UK spec.

On the continent the Activa setup was available with a range of engines not sure about the estate though.

www.towsure.com list 1 bar for the hatch range as well,1993 onwards.
Ifs it any thing like my Dads old 96 estate & my old late 97 estate, the towbar fixing holes need drilling out on early cars, like they did on the 96 est,but on my 97 estate the holes were already there, like most cars i`ve fitted towbars to since 1997. :)

Thanks all,

it is now clear from looking at the fitting diagram on the site below as supplied by reblack68.

It seems the Mk2 needs the spacer and long bolts that came with the original kit. Good job I kept them although the spacer is doing a good job of hiding in my workshop at present!
