Xantia Headlamps

I have a phase one 1994 Xantia which my father had new, from day one he remarked on how pathetic the headlamps are, and 12 years and 131000 miles havent improved them.

Is there a brighter bulb or a upgrade you can fit as they are like candles compared to my modern car, even main beam is rubbish. The reflectors are ok and the beam setting is fine as Ive had it checked.

Tim,
Fit relays so you get almost full battery voltage at the bulb & change the bulbs to Philips VisionPlus or Osram Silver Star H1s (bought my relays & Philips bulbs off ebay. I put a link to the sites on one of my posts).

There's some other posts as well as mine about this subjects over the Christmas period if you scroll back.

You won't get them like a "modern" car, but you can certainly make them much better.

Thanks guys, are these bulbs available from halfords and such like, could do with a set for the BX too lol as they are pretty poor also.

Citroen changed the beam pattern around 1996 to give better light spread, so you could look for a later pair of headlights (you can tell the difference if you see the lenses side by side).

As for the relays im not that technically minded but can manage a bulb change myself!

probly a daft question, being relatively new to the world of cars

how do you tell if you've got the H1 or H7 type lamps?

also does anyone rate the osram silverstar xenon lamps that gsf are doing for 20 quid a pair?

I'd be surprised if you find a Xantia with H7 bulbs...

And yeah the silverstar bulbs are great.

H1 are a single connector bulb and H7 are a twin connector type.

A lot of cars have the bulb type marked on the headlamp somewhere, either a sticker or on the back of the headlamp housing, never looked at a Xantia headlamp in detail though.

£20 a pair, they are cheaper then that elsewhere

Philips Vision Plus or Osram Silver Stars are the bulbs to pick, both always come top in product tests, tried both & theres nothing really to pick between them they are both very very good.

I got two pairs of Philips Vision Plus (2 x £10.43/pair + £1.49 postage) from Performance Bulbs from their ebay shop.
Super quick delivery, excellent price for the best bulbs on the market for Xantias.

If you want really good dipped headlights fit a set of genuine HID lamps. Kits available on ebay for around £100.00. Just type 'hid kit'

I have just driven my 98 Xantia on country roads for a fair distance in the dark, bloody dire lights, must get some bulbs and relays pronto.

I`ve had a look on Ebay,plenty of kits.I really fancy a set of these now

.Head lights on the 406 are much better than my Xantia,but i think a set of hid`s would be great.I supose they are ok on plastic headlamps like mine.
