C5 Satellite Aerial

Post by NigMos »

This is my first post to what I have found to be a very good forum. Can anyone help with this. I am installing a portable sat nav unit into my C5 (EXC HDi 2005) and while looking around I found that the std roof aerial also contains a satellite aerial with a lead disapearing into the head lining. I have looked behind the radio but cannot find it. Does anyone know where it ends up or what route it takes. This could be useful for anyone with a portable sat nav and could avoid having to rig up an external aerial due to the coated windscreen.

What sat nav unit have you got?

The newer chipset ( whatever its called, Tom tom one has it fitted ) isnt affected by the windscreen coating.

The lead from the aerial will have to come down one of the roof pillers somewhere, maybe pop the trim off nearby & see if its clipped up?

on all citroen cars with athermic windscreens there is a space on either side of the rear view mirror (the black shaded areas) that is plain glass for fitting the likes of mobile phone & GPS antennas.

My C5 has SatNav as standard. I haven't looked where the aerial comes out, but the screen is on top of the dash above the radio. Perhaps more importantly the CD goes into a dedicated CD drive in the small glovebox above the driver's right knee. It might be worth a poke around in that area.

Good luck

Thanks for the repiles, especially allmond. My previous car was a Laguna and that had its nav disc unit in the passenger glovebox so knowing where it is in the C5 is great. I will have a closer look around the drivers side. Thanks again.

Its something to do with the latest SiRFStarIII Chipset's that the newer sat nav's use, they are not affected by glass coatings or Ford quickclear screens like older units & the benefit is no need for an additional antenna

The sat nav ECU is located behind the instrument panel on the C5 the aerial connects to this, the CD drive has no antenna connection, just some power wires & a fibre optic link to the satnav ECU.

I recently purchased a new map cd for my C5 sat nav. It was 30 quid off ebay. The new disc has all new road changes on it such as the M6 Toll Motorway north of Birmingham, it also includes post code info, but the C5 sat nav doesn't recognise the post code bit. I've asked Citroen if there is an upgrade available for the sat nav operating software so I can use post code info but they tell me there's nothing they can do.

Has anyone else tried to upgrade their C5 colour sat nav ?
Cheers, Kev

The disc I have is by NAVTEQ and its for a VDO DAYTON system.

Looking on ebay.. this disc should work if your C5 is an early model (before june 2003)
