Cheap Xantia parts

Post by Wishy »

Was wondering where the best place to get cheap parts for these cars is (UK)? Alternatively is there a specialist breaker trading on here?

I'm after a few items such as
Fuel filter housing
leak off pipes
accelerator cable
priming bulb

Leakoff pipes are standard fuel tubing and an end cap available from most accessory shops. Fuel priming bulb looks remarkably like one sold by Screwfix Direct and my local B&Q Despot for £10. I don't think genuine are very expensive.

Specialists include GSF and Eurocarparts - both of whom have a large number of branches and on-line shops. Things like cables are also made by people like Quinton Hazell who have numerous outlets large and small.

Ha Ha Wishy.

You should find any job easy on the Xantia, if you are used to working on a Fiat 20V turbo.

You wait till it's cambelt time on the Fiat ](*,)

M&C Lockwoods (Bradford) are allways good on prices for Citroen service bits and for hydraulic parts, there is allways Pleiades. Both can be googled for details.

Regards
Slim.

Hi there, For the (inner) accelerator cable you could (and I have done ) use a bicycle rear deraillier gear cable.. £1.99 at Halfords. It works a treat and the nub on the end even fits properly into the plastic connector on the pedal! Remember to adjust the cable so as not to overstress this plastic part on full throttle. I did this as a "get me home" a year ago and is still fine. Best wishes, Martin

Cheers for the tips for places for bits all. The more I look at the engine the more I think my main issue is the fuel filter housing from....

a) reading the threads on air ingress culprits
b) the fact that my fuel filter housing has been sealed with blutack by a previous owner around the seal at the top and over the drain thingie at the front.

In answer to some of your questions

1. Sorry, but you couldn't pay me enough to come and do someone else's glow plugs, it's far too cold outside (come summer however I feel a small enterprise being set up).

2. To be honest I don't actually do much work on the Fiat myself as it's far too scary for me to make a mess of something that fast. The timing belt job I wouldn't touch with a barge pole but there are specialists who've perfected a technique of doing this without removing the engine and charge a third of what Fiat do (not that I'd let a main Fiat dealer anywhere near that car).

3. Halfrauds bike deraillieur cable here I come, cheers. :P

In general cheers for the welcome and I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty. Having the car start after changing the glow plugs (and removing everything I could possibly take off in front of the engine to get at them) was a great buzz (but not enough to do yours for you Andrew sorry  ) I do however feel like writing a complaint to Haynes with regards to their procedure for the glow plugs which just says "remove nut" but without giving you any clue on how to get to said nut. Rated as fairly easy to boot!

The guide on this forum was a great help though.

By the way will this stuff http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LEAK-OFF-PIPE-DIE ... dZViewItem be the thing for the leak off pipes?
