Please could anyone tell me what the valve does? Can't seem to find much out about it.
Thanks.

Also called the priority valve.
Quite a clever little device, in the event of a hydraulic pressure loss, this valve will prioritise the remaining pressure to the front brakes, if needed it will use the front suspension as accumulators to ensure that the brakes are the last to fail.
In other words. If the pump stops, the red light will come on, first loss will be power steering, followed by the suspension dropping, then if all this is ignored! finally the brakes will fail.
It is worth pointing out that the priority / security valve, very rarely goes wrong.
