BX Auto Selector Cable.

Post by howzat »

The auto trans selector cable on my BX16 (1991) has failed and is now unobtainable from citroen. Does anyone know if the cable from any other model (Zx, Xantia etc) can be used. Any help in finding an alternative source would be appreciated.

I have seen specialist cable makers - there may be one local to you.

Alternatively it may be that one of your local auto box specialists can help.

Speedy cables in London claim to be able to make any cable, but will probably need the remains of the old one to get lengths etc and they may have to resuse the ends and/or the outer depending on how oddball it is. They're cheaper than you might think, apparently.

If you ask for an Auto cable for a BX, it's doubtful that they'll have a pattern and might need yours to make one.

Can't speak for cable makers over there but here in the boondocks, we can buy custom made speedo cables for about A$25 less than the stealers ask.
The only problem I ever had getting anything like this made up was the clutch cable for the BX16V that has a counterweight fitted at the gearbox end. He didn't have nor could he get one and I wouldn't go without it as it was obviously there for a reason, apart from that about 48 hours including postage sees it done, but as has been said, it needs a specimen to work by. If it is in more than just 2 pieces, I'd reckon both ends and a length dimension would be all that they would require.

A peugeot 405 one should fit. It may be longer or shorter, but both ends
are the same.
