xantia 1.9 td cambelt cover

Post by toldemoldham »

Just had a new cambelt fitted but the top front cover is now damaged there is a hole the size of a 20p on top have put duck tape on to stop stones getting in but what i need to know is what year did they change covers from clip to bolt on type as this info would make it easier to to find 1.

And you need a bolt or clip-on type :?: :D
(in '98 major model changes were introduced)

Edit :
This clip-on type is used on 19TD until RP 06264 (up to 31jan94) :

This bolt-on type is used on 19D's from RP06265 on (from 01feb94) :
http://www.citroen-pr.net/catalogues/il ... 143710.gif
item 02 - 0320 H3 - BELT PROTECTOR
- DIESEL XUD9
- TURBO DIESEL XUD9TE
- DIESEL TURBO XUD9SD
My price list shows approx £13 (ex vat) from Citroen for this bit.

Sorry my first answer
- as this had nothing to do with the cover type change :!:

Interesting - the same thing happened to my 306 TD when it had a new belt, and I saw the same thing on a mates 405D estate. Is there any reason why a mechanic might do this on purpose?

The mechanic explained that some covers are more brittle than others and i cant argue with that as i cracked 1 myself doing a pug 205 diesel i once had but had no problems with the 2 pug 405 diesels and 1 of those had the covers off and on 3 times in the time i had it for 2 cambelts and a water pump.

The later ones can become extremely brittle over time, literally crumbling in your hands, they are also a right PITA to get off anyway unless the engine is out.
